  • About the Scholarship Fund

  • The high cost of camping remains a challenge and is often a deterrent for many families. Consequently many deserving children are denied a most vital component of their personal development and growth. Hence in order to make this meaningful experience accessible to all, Chabad Lubavitch has established an endowment fund. The fund is dedicated in memory and in tribute to Mr. Joseph Kerzner alav haShalom. His bequest is the primary and initial source of revenue. Still, in order to preserve the principle and grow the fund we have elected to dedicate the income of our Greeting Card project to the existing endowment. Whether it’s a birth, a Simcha, Yartzeit, or convey condolences, these attractive cards are a meaningful and practical way to express your sentiments.

Indeed, the deed of Tzedaka is the most tangible way to show you care and is considered the "gift of life." This notion is elucidated by Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the founder of the Chabad Chassidic movement. He explains the centrality of Tzedaka in Jewish life and why it is recognized as the most inclusive observance. He notes; "when one gives charity he is giving the gift of life, since the said allocation is the result of his/her hard earned efforts to earn a livelihood. Furthermore, even when the effort is minimal and the gift is from a surplus, still one could have elected to indulge; hence the charity extended to others is considered the "gift of life."

  • Camp Gan Israel

The 207 acre site camp site is situated in the picturesque Haliburton region on the shores of Basshaunt Lake. The secluded oasis, replete with capacious foliage and rolling hills, offers a perfect setting for hosting an overnight camp.

The camp launched in 2012 is called, The Sidney & Naomi Spiegel Camp Gan Israel in recognition of their commitment to the well being of youngsters and their unstinting generosity to bring this project to fruition.

The Rebbe suggested the name Gan Israel (Garden of Israel) in recognition of Reb Yisroel Baal Shem Tov, who from a very tender age would spend much time in the forest where he could pray and study in the tranquil setting of nature.

On numerous occasions the Rebbe extolled the virtue of overnight camping where the participants are imbued with a ‘high octane’ 24/7 energy boost of "Chayus" that will stay with them for a lifetime.

The two summer months provide a 4 week getaway for girls and then boys respectively. Removed from the hustle and bustle of the city, the great outdoors are an amazing haven where youngsters strengthen the body and nurture the soul.

    Lubavitch Day Camp

LDC began almost 40 years ago in response to the call of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneerson obm to reach out to Jewish children during the summer months. The Rebbe stressed that while summer is a time to relax it is not a vacation from Torah study. In fact, through a carefully organized summer program children can enrich their Jewish spirit and nurture their soul. The Rebbe underscored that camp can and should complement school studies. Furthermore, for youngsters without a formal Jewish education, camp serves as the sole source of Jewish learning.

More than 600 campers, some as young as 2 years of age, enjoy a wonderful summer at LDC each summer. Those in need are awarded a scholarship on a sliding scale.

The campers divided into four divisions enjoy a customized program. Each battalion is a self contained cell and benefits from a tailored schedule and agenda. No effort is spared in order to ensure an exciting program under the supervision of selected counselors. In order to facilitate working parents, nutritious lunches and door to door transportation is provided.
